After spending 15 years living in Canada, in 2015, Morrinsville born and raised Alton Valler along with his wife Brenda and their children returned to New Zealand and settled on the family owned property on the outskirts of Morrinsville.
Having spent so much time hiking and camping amongst the Canadian mountainous forests in British Columbia and loving the experience of cutting your own wild fir tree for the Christmas season, Alton decided to bring a little of Canada to New Zealand.
A few years ago Alton & Brenda purchased their family property which included Kerepark Storage . In addition to the business came a few acres of flat land close to town. As Alton had a horticultural background, he wanted to utilise the land, so the idea of having a little bit of Canada in our their own back yard (and sights and smells of fir & pine trees), while wanting to have a Christmas tree experience for their family and along with the community of Morrinsville became a reality with their first year of sales in 2019.
Alton wanted to make the trees a little different than other farms, so along with the traditional NZ Christmas tree of Pinus Radiata, they have chosen to grow the more traditional European and American trees of Norway Spruce, as well as Douglas Fir. These trees take a lot longer to develop and will not be available for a few years, possibly beginning in 2021. The look and feel is much different, but really amazing.
Its been a trial and error process, learning from experiences in growing and dying…but every year things get better.
Their plans are to create a bigger and better “Family Experience” each year, with ideas of Christmas accessories, food and fun for the family to come as it becomes viable.
